If you know me, you know that I love libraries.
In a world where information is power, libraries give everyone access to information, regardless of their socio-economic status. Libraries are the equalizer. Libraries promote literacy, are a safe space to explore the real or imagined world, and work to preserve literary freedom.
If you have a library card, you have a world of possibility in your hand.
I feel like I do need to make one admission. I don’t like reading books that other people have read. When I read physical books, I like them to be new and in pristine condition. Once I’ve finished reading them, they look exactly the same way. I don’t dog ear pages, highlight, write in or crack the spine. But even with all of the book snobbery, I borrow digital books, audio books and yes, even sometimes when I can’t find another option, books that have obviously been read by others.
So, on a visit to my local library’s website today, I was so excited to see this banner –

But I was a little skeptical.
I checked it out and WOW, is this ever amazing. So much fabulous content on so many topics, all at my fingertips. I’ve already taken some courses, bookmarked others to take and decided that I’m interested in about 75 more topics.
If you don’t have a library card or can’t remember if you have one because it has been so long since you used it, go to your Library this week. Get a library card. Check them out online. Libraries are not longer about being quiet, checking out the big resource books and encyclopedias they would never let you take home or flipping through index cards (yes, I’m THAT old).
It’s time to see what you’ve been missing.
