I Never Win Anything (Except When I Do)

Yesterday, I had the most amazing day of learning and I was a WINNER!

Since starting out on this writing journey just over a month ago, I’ve been amazed by the level of training, webinars and special events that are available. Many are precursors to getting you to sign up for training or coaching or another program, but the best ones give you some great content and information before the “sell”. Those ones give you a better opportunity to understand what you might expect if you did engage their services.

I have sat through a lot of “masterclasses” or free training which is little more than a sales pitch or just not the right content for where I am in my journey, but I take something away from most of what I watch (sometimes because I can watch the recording at 2x the speed and slow it down when I want to pay more attention).

I don’t feel like I’ve explored and practiced enough to make the financial investment for a coach or writing course at this point and I still want to explore more to see what is available and find something (someone?) where I feel the fit.

I guess I feel like I need to pursue this for a bit and make sure I stay invested in it before spending a lot of money. Yes, I am trying to reign in my ADHD tendency of picking up a new hobby, buying everything a person could ever need to participate in it, only to get bored before I’ve even opened most of the items I’ve purchased. If you don’t have ADHD, you may not understand the need for shopping to accompany every new thing and how a new thing may only be interesting when it’s new.

I was excited for yesterday because not only was there many interviews with different writers and coaches but it was a Canadian coach who was hosting it, Suzy Vadori. I know it doesn’t really matter if you find a coach you can work with but I guess I feel like it kind of does matter to me. There’s just something about a fellow Canadian who has been successful in the field you want to be in.

Suzy had organized the day to launch her new podcast, Show don’t Tell Writing, where she provides great advice for aspiring writers. I enjoy listening to the podcast, she’s very down to earth and genuine and provides great tips to make your writing better.

Over the course of the day, I got great advice on breaking into the writing industry from Jennie Nash, how to traditionally publish romance from Felicity George, hybrid publishing from Sheri Joseph and how to finish an entire novel from Tanisha Martin. You can check out many of these interviews on Suzy’s YouTube Channel.

Suzy awarded different prizes and the one I really wanted to win was a FREE Wicked Good Fiction Bootcamp enrollment. Now, I never win anything. Expect when I do, I guess because I WON!

I’m so excited to get started on the program! I enjoyed the first couple of podcasts and enjoyed spending the day with Suzy and her guests. I’ll let you know how it goes!

An 8 week virtual book coaching experience where you can get over a decade’s worth of Suzy’s insider writing industry tips in just 8 weeks to make your writing as strong as possible (hint: there is so much more to it than fixing grammar!)
